The Manual of Style guidelines for block quotations recommend formatting block quotations using the {{{{#if: |subst:}}Quote{{#if: ||{{{2}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{3}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{4}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{5}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{6}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{7}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{8}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{9}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{10}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{11}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{12}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{13}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{14}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{15}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{16}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{17}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{18}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{19}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{20}}}}}{{#if: ||...}}}} template or the HTML <blockquote> element, for which that template provides a wrapper.

  • Quotes work best when used with short sentences, and at the start or end of a section, as a hint of or to help emphasize the section's content.
  • For typical quotes, especially those longer than the rest of the paragraph in which they are quoted, {{{{#if: |subst:}}Cquote{{#if: ||{{{2}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{3}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{4}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{5}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{6}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{7}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{8}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{9}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{10}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{11}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{12}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{13}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{14}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{15}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{16}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{17}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{18}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{19}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{20}}}}}{{#if: ||...}}}} provides a borderless quote with decorative quotation marks, and {{{{#if: |subst:}}Quote frame{{#if: ||{{{2}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{3}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{4}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{5}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{6}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{7}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{8}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{9}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{10}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{11}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{12}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{13}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{14}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{15}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{16}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{17}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{18}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{19}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{20}}}}}{{#if: ||...}}}} provided a bordered quote. Both span the page width.
  • For very short quotes, {{{{#if: |subst:}}Rquote{{#if: ||{{{2}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{3}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{4}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{5}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{6}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{7}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{8}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{9}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{10}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{11}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{12}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{13}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{14}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{15}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{16}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{17}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{18}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{19}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{20}}}}}{{#if: ||...}}}} (with decorative quotation marks) or {{{{#if: |subst:}}Quote box{{#if: ||{{{2}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{3}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{4}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{5}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{6}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{7}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{8}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{9}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{10}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{11}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{12}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{13}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{14}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{15}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{16}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{17}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{18}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{19}}}}}{{#if: ||{{{20}}}}}{{#if: ||...}}}} (framed) can be used to set the quote off to either the right or left as in a magazine sidebar. This can be effective on essay pages and WikiProject homepages.
